Some states offer powerful electricity savings programs, (pun-intended). Other states currently have no options we can recommend at this time. This page explains what may be available where you live and how we help you find the smartest, lowest-risk choices. Follow the links below to see if community solar or the unique third party supplier is offered in your area by typing in your zip code. Or if you need a bit of hand holding, send us an email with your zip code and we will let you know what programs you qualify for.

Three Ways to Save on Electricity

Depending on your state and utility, we may recommend one or more of the following options. If your state has no eligible programs today, we will let you know and keep you in mind if that changes.

Community Solar (Our #1 Recommendation)

Community Solar lets you support local renewable energy and save money at the same time. It’s free to enroll, and in many states you can save between 5% and 20% on your electricity bill for up to 20 years. Community Solar programs exist in Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Virginia.  Some states have unified billing and all homes are eligible. In this situation, nothing much changes except you start saving. Some states only offer spots to Low and Moderate Income homes. Some states have dual billing, meaning you will get two different bills. Click the link below, go to the  Community Solar Page, type in your zip code to check inventory and availability. Look for some "Sunshine"!

A Unique Third Party Supplier.

A third-party electricity supplier that only activates you as a customer if they can save you money compared to your local utility. Your eligibility and potential savings depend on your usage patterns, the type of customer you are, and current electricity market conditions. If they can't lower your bill, you stay with the utility! Available in Delaware,  Illinois, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C. Click the link below, go to the  Electricity page, type in your zip code and look for AutoSave!

Smart Thermostat + Third Party Supplier

In some states, installing a qualifying smart thermostat and pairing it with the recommended third party supplier will guarantee savings. This combination helps you use less energy when prices are high while still keeping your home comfortable.

How Community Solar Programs Differ by State

Community Solar rules are set at the state and utility level, so details can vary. Here are the main things that change from place to place:

01

Program Availability: Some states have active Community Solar programs, while others do not. It's free to enroll and you can leave if you'd like. The terms is usually 15 to 20 years. If your state has no program yet, we will let you know and keep an eye out for future openings.

02

Who Qualifies: In some states, everyone can enroll. In others, the program is limited to low- and moderate-income customers. Most commonly, community solar programs are for residential customers. No equipment is installed. The programs work with renters and homeowners.

03

Billing Type: Some utilities offer consolidated billing, which means you still only get a single bill from your utility and your savings appear right on that bill. In states without consolidated billing, you have dual billing and you receive two bills—one from your utility and one from the Community Solar provider.

04

Available Capacity: Program inventory can open, close and re-open over time. Sometimes your state has an active program and there are spots available. At other times there is not any available inventory on any of the local solar farms right away. There is usually a delay of 0-6 months before savings begin even when spots are available.  You may need to join a free waitlist. Once we have your zip code, we can let you know when a spot opens up in your zipcode.

05

Savings Range: Typical savings from Community Solar fall between 5% and 20%, and occasionally, even higher, depending on your state, utility, and program structure.
